A new start – Day 8

A new start … with God as our protector

Bible text(s)

7The LORD will protect you from all danger;

he will keep you safe.

8He will protect you as you come and go

now and for ever.

Psalms 121:7-8GNBOpen in Bible reader

[BACKGROUND: I would like to share two testimonies of God’s protection and care for us today.]

 Reader 1, Shani: “One night, I had a strange dream. In my dream, my late grandfather and husband were having a conversation. When I woke up the next morning, I asked God to guide me through his Holy Spirit, to understand the message hidden in the dream (as my grandfather had passed away several years ago).

In my heart, I felt a strong urge to pray for my husband’s protection. Throughout the day, I kept on praying for the blood of Jesus Christ to be upon him.

When my husband came home after a busy day at work, I immediately asked him if he experienced any danger that day. With a surprised look on his face, he replied, ‘Yes, I missed a head-on collision literally by seconds!’ In my heart, I praised God for his faithfulness to warn me, beforehand, to pray for my husband. All glory goes to him!”

Reader 2, Henk: “A few Sundays ago, my car battery suddenly went dead. (It was less than two years old.) I was very disappointed, as this meant unnecessary cost to replace it.

The following morning, I took an alternative route to work in order to get a new battery. Just before I got onto the highway, I saw a hitchhiker next to the road. He looked desperate. Even though I have a policy not to pick up hitchhikers, as it can be dangerous, I felt in my heart that I had to give the man a lift.

We started talking and he (Willem) told me that he was looking for work in Pretoria. After he lost his job in September last year, he and his family were forced to sell many of their valuable possessions, in order to get by. At that time, he and his family were already without food for three days.
One of his biggest challenges was to get his tools back. Being a handyman, he was devastated when he had to sell his tools in order to get money for food. He now had a potential job, but needed his tools. Again, I felt that God led me to help him. We went to Benoni, to the shop where he sold the tools earlier, and we managed to buy them back.
Later on, Willem told me that he had lost all hope when he stood next to the road that Monday morning. In fact, he was on his way to commit suicide but then, I stopped and picked him up.

I still stand in amazement at God’s love and his desire to help us through any difficult situation. I praise him that he used me, by leading me on an alternative route to work, so I could be an instrument in his hand that day!”

Shani and Henk are right. God wants to help and protect us. Listen to the words in Psalm 121:7-8: “The LORD will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

God is the Alpha and Omega. He knows our past, our current crises and our future. Let us choose to trust him to protect us and to carry us through every crisis. God bless.
