Leviticus 1

₁The Lord called Moses and He talked to him at the tent of the Lord. ₂The Lord said: ‘You must tell the Israelites: If one of you wants to give an offering to the Lord and he wants to sacrifice an animal, he must give a bull or a sheep or a goat. ₃If his offering is a bull, it must be a healthy bull. He must bring the bull to the door of the tent of the Lord so that the Lord can accept his offering. ₄He must put his hand on the head of the animal that he wants to give as a burnt-offering so that the Lord will accept his offering and forgive his sin. ₅Then he must kill the bull at the entrance of the tent of the Lord and the priests, who are the descendants of Aaron, must take the blood of the bull and sprinkle it onto the sides of the altar that stands in front of the tent.

₆The person who gives the offering must kill the bull and cut the meat into pieces. ₇The priests, who are descendants of Aaron, must make a fire on the altar and they must put wood onto the fire. ₈Then they must put the pieces of meat onto the wood in the fire on the altar. They must also put the head of the bull and the fat onto the burning wood. ₉The person who gives the offering must wash the legs and the inner parts of the animal and the priest must burn everything on the altar. This is a burnt-offering, a fire-offering that pleases the Lord.

₁₀When someone gives a sheep or a goat as a burnt-offering, it must be a healthy ram. There must be nothing wrong with it. ₁₁He must kill the ram in front of the altar of the Lord on the northern side, and the priests, who are the sons of Aaron, must sprinkle the blood onto the altar and around it. ₁₂The person must cut off the head and the fat of the animal. He must cut the meat into pieces and the priest must put all of them side by side onto the burning wood of the fire on the altar. ₁₃The person must wash the inner parts and the legs of the animal and the priest must burn everything and sacrifice it on the altar. This is a burnt-offering, a fire-offering that pleases the Lord.

₁₄When someone wants to give a bird as a burnt-offering to the Lord, he must give a dove. ₁₅The priest must take the bird to the altar. He must kill it by breaking the bird's neck and he must burn it on the altar. He must pour out all the bird's blood onto the side of the altar. ₁₆And then he must take the crop and the feathers of the dove and throw them away on the eastern side of the altar, onto the ash-heap. ₁₇He must tear off a part of the dove's wings and then he must burn that on the altar. This is a burnt-offering, a fire-offering that pleases the Lord.’
