Please lead me on your way
Tell the leader of the choir that this is a Psalm of David.
1Lord, You have looked deep inside me,
and You know me very well.
2You know everything that I do,
when I sit or stand.
You also know what I think
even before I start to think.
3You know where I go
and how long I sleep.
You know everything that I do.
4Lord, before I start to say something,
You already know what I am going to say.
5You are behind me and in front of me,
and You protect me with your hand.
6I do not understand
how You can know everything.
It is too difficult for me to understand.
7There is no place
where I can get away from You,
and no one can ever escape or flee from You.
8If I should go up into heaven,
You would be there,
and if I should die and go to the underworld,
You would also be there.
9If I fly to the east or go to the west
on the other side of the sea,
10You will be there to lead and hold me.
11If I ask the darkness to cover me
and all the light around me becomes dark,
12then it will not be dark for You
because to You the night
is as light as day
and darkness is like light to You.
13It was You who made me.
You made every part inside of me
very carefully before I was born,
while I was in my mother's womb.
14I praise You because
You have made me wonderfully
and in an amazing way.
Everything that You do is wonderful.
I know it well.
15You made me in my mother's womb
and knew every bone in my body
as it was growing where no one else could see it.
16You saw me before I was born.
I was not even one day old
when You wrote down in your book
how long I would live.
17O God, the things that You think about
are precious and there are
so many things that You have to think about.
18If I tried to count them all,
it would be more than all the sand,
and if I could finish it,
I would still not begin
to understand the things that You do.
19O God, I pray that You
will punish the sinful people.
Murderers, you must go away from me.
20Lord, they are your enemies.
They say bad things against You,
they use your name for things that are wrong,
and they rebel_against You.
21Lord, I hate the people who hate You.
I do not like the people
who rebel_against You.
22I hate them with all my heart,
and they are my enemies.
23O God, please look deep inside me
and see if there is anything
that is wrong against You.
Test me and judge the things that I think.
24Look if there is anything bad in me
and help me live in the way that is always right.
