1 *Chronicles 20
David defeats the Ammonites
1It was spring time, the time when the kings went to war. Joab led the army to the land of the Ammonites and they destroyed them. Then he besieged the town of Rabbah, but David did not go with them. He stayed in Jerusalem. Joab defeated the town and he destroyed it. 2When David went to the town of Rabbah, he took the crown off their king's head. The crown was made of one talent of gold and there was a beautiful gemstone in the crown. David took the crown and he put it on his head. They took a lot of things from the town. 3He also took the men from the town of Rabbah and they had to work for him, each man with a saw, pickaxe and axe. He did the same to the men from all the towns of Ammon. Then he and his men went back to Jerusalem.
David's men kill the Rapha people
4Later the Israelites made war_against the Philistines again at the town of Gezer. Sibbekai, the officer from the town of Husa, defeated Sippai. Sippai was a descendant of the Rapha people. 5Later when the Israelites made war_against the Philistines again, Elhanan, son of Jair, killed Lahmi. Lahmi was a brother of Goliath who came from the town of Gath. Lahmi's spear was as thick and as long as a pole of a loom.
6One day there was war in the town of Gath. There was a very big man. He had 6 fingers on each hand and 6 toes on each foot. He had 24 fingers and toes altogether. He was also a descendant of the Rapha people. 7He mocked the Israelites, but then Jonathan, the son of Shimea and brother of David, defeated him. 8These descendants of Rapha, who were born in the town of Gath, were killed by David and his men.
