Praise the Lord because He is good
1You must praise the Lord.
Praise the name of the Lord.
Servants of the Lord, praise Him,
2all of you working in the temple
and in the courtyards of the temple.
3Praise the Lord because He is good,
and sing to Him because He is gracious.
4Because the Lord
has chosen Jacob to belong to Him.
He has chosen Israel to be his own people.
5I know that the Lord is great.
Our Lord is greater than all the gods.
6The Lord does what He
wants to do in heaven and on earth,
on the sea and in the deep water.
7It is God who makes the clouds
come up from the end of the earth.
He is the One who makes lightning
for the rain and the winds to blow.
8It was the Lord who caused
the firstborn sons in Egypt to die,
the firstborn children
of people and animals.
9He showed signs and did miracles
in Egypt against Pharaoh and all his officials.
10It is God who defeated
many nations and killed strong kings.
11He killed Sihon, king of the Amorites
and Og, king of Bashan,
and all the kings of Canaan.
12Then the Lord gave their lands
to his people, the Israelites.
He gave the lands as gifts.
13Lord, everyone will always
know your name, and each new generation
will know that You are God.
14The Lord will help and defend his people.
He will feel sorry for his servants again.
15The idols that people worship
are made of silver and gold,
and people have made them.
16The idols have mouths
but they can not talk,
they have eyes but they can not see,
17they have ears but they can not hear,
and their mouths are open,
but they can not breathe.
18The people who have made those idols
will become as dead as the idols,
and so will all the people who believe in them.
19People of Israel,
you must praise the Lord,
family of Aaron, praise the Lord,
20and descendants of Levi,
you must praise the Lord.
All of you who serve the Lord,
praise his name.
21We praise the Lord in Zion,
and everyone who lives in Jerusalem praises Him.
You must praise the Lord.
