Lord, You gave the king what he wanted
Tell the leader of the choir that this is a Psalm of David.
1Lord, the king is happy
because You made him strong,
and he rejoices because
You helped him win in war.
2You gave him what he wanted,
and You did not say ‘no’ to him. Selah
3You blessed him
and gave him wonderful things.
You put a crown
of gold on his head.
4He asked You to give him life
and that is what You gave him.
Yes, You gave him a long life.
5You helped him win the war,
and that is why people respect
and honour him.
You have made him an important king.
6Yes, your blessings
are with him forever.
You are with him
and that is why he is happy.
7The king trusts in the Lord.
He is safe because
the Most High God loves him
and he will never be defeated.
8The king will catch all his enemies.
He will catch all the people
who hate him.
9When the Lord comes,
He will kill them
and burn them in a furnace.
The Lord is angry, and He will send
a burning fire that
will swallow and kill them.
10You will make their children
disappear from the earth,
and they will have no descendants.
11The enemies of the king
make plans to attack him,
but their plans against him
will not work or succeed
12because You will shoot them
with your bow_and_arrow
and they will run away.
13Lord, let everyone see
that You are the strong King.
We will sing and praise You
because You are great.
