Will the Lord leave us forever?
Tell the leader of the choir to play the same music as the song: ‘Jeduthun’. This is a Psalm of Asaph.
1I cry out loudly to God and
ask Him to listen to me and help me.
2When I am in deep trouble,
I ask God to be with me.
I put out my hands and pray
to Him all night,
but there is nothing that comforts me.
3When I think about God,
I sigh and moan. When I think
about what has happened to me,
I become discouraged. Selah
4You keep my eyes open,
so I can not sleep.
I am so worried that I can not talk.
5I think of times that went past long ago.
6I remember the songs
that I sang to God at night.
I think of them and I ask myself:
7‘Will the Lord leave us forever?
Will He never be good to us again?
8Has He stopped loving us forever?
Will He stop doing
what He has promised us?
9Has God forgotten to be merciful?
Is He too angry to feel sorry for us?’ Selah
10Then I say: ‘There is something
that makes me unhappy.
It is that the Most High God
does not do powerful things
like He did before.’
11I remember the wonderful things
that the Lord did long ago,
the miracles to help us.
12I remember everything that You did,
the things that You did
with your great power.
13O God, your way is holy,
and so are the things that You do.
There is no other God who is
as great and strong as You.
14You, O God,
are the One who can do miracles
and You have shown the people
how strong You are.
15You were powerful
when You saved your people,
the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.
You showed them how strong You are. Selah
16O God, when the water saw You,
yes, when the water
of the sea saw You, it trembled,
and the deep water became afraid.
17The rain came down from the clouds
and there was thunder in the sky.
Your lightning was everywhere
like burning arrows.
18You made the thunder roar,
the lightning made the world light,
and the earth shook and trembled.
19You made a way through the sea,
and You walked through the deep water,
but no one saw where You walked to.
20You led your people
like a shepherd leads his sheep.
You told Moses and Aaron to lead your people.
