It started out as an ordinary day in the studio for me at Radio Tygerberg 104fm when I read the SMS from Johanna on the studio’s SMS line. Johanna is a single mother working on a farm along the N2 outside Cape Town. She shared that her son, Jason, is an outstanding rugby player. The problem however was that his rugby boots were too small and she could not afford new ones while the rugby trials were fast approaching. Johanna said it broke her heart to see Jason sitting at home, too ashamed to tell anyone why he is not preparing for the trials like the other boys. I shared the SMS with our listeners and immediately a number of them responded with contributions so we could buy Jason new rugby boots.
I invited Johanna and Jason to the studio for the handover. During the live interview, I asked Johanna to tell the listeners about the day she sent the SMS to the studio. Our time was limited so I did not have time to ask her this before we went live on air. Everything she told was also news to me.
Johanna shared that she stood in utter despair in their bathroom that morning with tears streaming down her cheeks. She was desperate and only God could help her to change the situation. As she went down on her knees, she asked God for a miracle. In an instant she saw a vision of a pair of black, white and red rugby boots. In her heart she knew that it was a promise from God that He would provide. She started thanking Him as she washed her face and left the bathroom. In her heart she had an urgency to send us an SMS. She did.
In the studio, I opened the bag full of surprises for Jason. Out came a beautiful water bottle, a brand-new rugby ball, a sports bag and the box with new rugby boots. He opened the box and in front of him was the red, white and black rugby boots — just like Johanna saw in her vision. Both mother and son were in tears. It was the boots Jason dreamed about. We did not know it, but God did and He chose to reveal his goodness in this way to the young boy.
In Psalm 24:1 the psalmist reminds us that everything on earth belongs to God. He could therefore provide whatever we need. In Luke 12:24 Jesus reminds us to not worry about tomorrow: “Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds!” And in Ephesians 3:20-21 we are reminded that God is able to give to us what we need because He knows our hearts’ desires: “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him …”
What are you praying for today? Are you praying for a baby or maybe a spouse? Maybe enough money to pay your bills? Or a job opportunity? Or maybe something like rugby boots? Remember, God knows the desires of your heart and nothing is too hard for Him. Why don’t you give Him a chance to reveal his goodness to you? God bless.
