We usually associate power with someone who lifts heavy weights, pulls mega trucks forward using only a strong leather band around his waist or someone who throws people around in a wrestling ring like rag dolls. However, this is only brutal human power, unable to accomplish anything against the invisible world of our existence.
Paul has the following to say about the invisible world that we are at war with: For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12)
Your fight against your own wandering thoughts, your stressful relationships, your incompetence to love or forgive, your lack of self-control and all the little foxes that spoil the vines are very often the works of powers of the unseen spiritual world to whom you lend an ear. Their strategy, continuously, is to make an onslaught on your whole being, to tire and rattle you, until you become so weak that you struggle to stand your ground and eventually, want to throw in the towel. However, don’t do that! Take heed of Paul’s words: be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
This power is not the kind that is demonstrated by strong men, it is a power that lives within you and is activated by your living relationship with the Source. His power enables you to stand steadfastly, put on your armour with confidence and hit the enemy, bull’s-eye, every time you use your weapons of warfare – the word of God and the Spirit.
