Azariah becomes king_of_Judah
(Also in 2 Chronicles 26:1-23)
1Azariah, son of King Amaziah of Judah, became king in the 27th year after Jeroboam had become king_of_Israel. 2Azariah was 16 years old when he became king and he was king in Jerusalem for 52 years. His mother's name was Jekoliah. She was from Jerusalem. 3Azariah did things that the Lord loves, like his father Amaziah had done. 4But he did not break down the places_of_sacrifice. The people still sacrificed there and burnt incense-offerings. 5The Lord punished the king and he became leprous. He was leprous until he died. He lived alone in a house away from other people and his son, Jotham, ruled over the palace and the people of the land. 6All the other things that Azariah did are written in the book of the history of the kings_of_Judah. 7He died and his people buried him with his forefathers in the City of David. Jotham, his son, became king after him.
Zechariah becomes king_of_Israel
8Zechariah, son of Jeroboam, became king_of_Israel in Samaria in the 38th year after Azariah had become king_of_Judah. Zechariah was king for 6 months. 9He did things that the Lord said were wrong. He did the same as his forefathers had done and he continued to do the sins that Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had done and that he had made the Israelites do. 10Shallum, son of Jabesh, made plans against Zechariah and he killed him in front of all the soldiers. Shallum killed Zechariah and he became king in Zechariah's place. 11All the other things that Zechariah did are written in the book of the history of the kings_of_Israel. 12It happened as the Lord had said to Jehu. He said: ‘You and 4 of your descendants will be kings_of_Israel.’
Shallum becomes king_of_Israel
13Shallum, son of Jabesh, became king_of_Israel in the 39th year after Azariah had become king_of_Judah. Shallum was king in Samaria for only one month. 14Menahem, son of Gadi from the town of Tirzah, came to Samaria. He attacked Shallum and killed him there, and then Menahem became king in Shallum's place. 15All the other things that Shallum did and his plans against King Zechariah are written in the book of the history of the kings_of_Israel.
16Shallum was king when Menahem defeated the town of Tiphsah. Menahem killed everyone in and near the town. He came from Tirzah and attacked the town of Tiphsah. The leaders of Tiphsah did not want to open the gates of the town for him. But he defeated them and cut open all the pregnant women in the town.
Menahem becomes king_of_Israel
17Menahem, son of Gadi, became king_of_Israel in the 39th year after Azariah had become king_of_Judah. Menahem was king in Samaria for 10 years. 18He did things that the Lord said were wrong. He did not stop doing the sins that Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had done and had made the Israelites do. 19King Pul from the land of Assyria came to attack Israel. Menahem gave Pul 1 000 talents of silver. He wanted Pul to help him be a strong king for a long time. 20Menahem told each man who had a field in the land_of_Israel to give him 50 shekels of silver and he gave that money to the king of Assyria. The king of Assyria then went back to his land. He and his soldiers did not stay in the land_of_Israel. 21All the other things that Menahem did are written in the book of the history of the kings_of_Israel. 22He died and his son, Pekahiah, became king after him.
Pekahiah becomes king_of_Israel
23Pekahiah, son of Menahem, became king_of_Israel in Samaria in the 50th year after Azariah had become king_of_Judah. Pekahiah was king for 2 years. 24He did what the Lord said was wrong. He did not stop doing the sins that Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had done and had made the Israelites do. 25One of his officers, Pekah, son of Remaliah, made plans against Pekahiah and he attacked Pekahiah in Samaria in the tower of the palace. Argob, Arieh and 50 men of Gilead were with Pekah. Pekah killed Pekahiah and he became king in Pekahiah's place. 26All the other things that Pekahiah did are written in the book of the history of the kings_of_Israel.
Pekah becomes king_of_Israel
27Pekah, son of Remaliah, became king_of_Israel in Samaria in the 52nd year after Azariah had become king_of_Judah. Pekah was king for 20 years. 28He did things that the Lord said were wrong. He did not stop doing the sins that Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had done and had made the Israelites do. 29In the time when Pekah was king_of_Israel, King Tiglath-Pileser of Assyria came to Israel. He defeated the towns of Ijon, Abel-Beth-Maakah, Janoah, Kedesh and Hazor. He took all the land of Naphtali, the land of Galilee and the land of Gilead. He caught the people and took them away to the land of Assyria. 30Hoshea, son of Elah, made plans against Pekah, son of Remaliah. Hoshea attacked and killed Pekah and he became king in Pekah's place. That was in the 20th year after Jotham, son of Uzziah, had become king_of_Judah. 31All the other things that Pekah did are written in the book of the history of the kings_of_Israel.
Jotham becomes king_of_Judah
(Also in 2 Chronicles 27:1-9)
32Jotham, son of King Azariah of Judah, became king in the 2nd year after Pekah, son of Remaliah, had become king_of_Israel. 33Jotham was 25 years old when he became king and he was king in Jerusalem for 16 years. His mother's name was Jerusha. She was a daughter of Zadok. 34Jotham did things that the Lord loves. He lived as his father Uzziah had lived. 35But he did not break down the places_of_sacrifice. The people kept on sacrificing and burning incense-offerings there. It was Jotham who built the Upper Gate of the temple. 36All the other things that Jotham did are written in the book of the history of the kings_of_Judah. 37In the time when Jotham was king, the Lord sent King Rezin of Syria and King Pekah, son of Remaliah, to attack Judah. 38Jotham died and his people buried him with his forefathers in Jerusalem. His son, Ahaz, became king after him.
