Moses consecrates Aaron and his sons to the Lord
1The Lord said to Moses: ‘You must consecrate Aaron and his sons to Me so that they can be my priests. You must take a healthy bull and 2 sheep rams. Nothing may be wrong with them. 2Take the best wheat flour and make flat bread, round bread and wafers. Mix olive oil with the dough of the round bread and pour olive oil on the wafers. 3Put it all in one basket and sacrifice it with the bull and 2 rams. 4Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent where I will appear to you, and wash them there with water. 5Take the priestly clothes and put them on Aaron. Put on the dress, the shoulder-cloth, the robe that he puts on with the shoulder-cloth and the breast-piece. Tie the shoulder-cloth with the belt. 6Put the turban on his head and put the holy_crown on the turban. 7Pour olive oil on his head and anoint him. 8You must also consecrate his sons like this and put on their priestly clothes. 9Put the sashes and headbands on Aaron and his sons. They must always be priests and this is how you must consecrate them to be my priests.
10Then you must bring the bull to the front of the tent where I will appear to you. Aaron and his sons must put their hands on the head of the bull, 11and you must kill the bull there in front of Me, at the entrance of the tent where I will appear to you. 12Take some of the blood of the bull with your fingers and put it on the horns_of_the_altar. Then pour out all the blood at the foot of the altar. 13You must burn all the fat of the inner parts of the bull on the altar, and the lower part of the liver and the kidneys with its fat. 14You must burn the meat of the bull outside the camp. Burn it with the skin and the grass in its stomach. This is a sin-offering.’
The first ram
15The Lord said to Moses: ‘You must take the first sheep ram and Aaron and his sons must put their hands on the head of the ram. 16Then you must kill the ram and sprinkle some of its blood onto the altar. 17Cut the ram into pieces, wash the inner parts and the feet and put them all together with the pieces of meat and the head. 18Burn it all on the altar. This is a burnt-offering, a fire-offering that pleases Me.’
The 2nd ram
19‘Aaron and his sons must put their hands on the head of the other ram. 20You must kill the ram and take some of its blood and put it on Aaron and his sons' right ears, on their right thumbs and on the big toes of their right feet. Sprinkle some of the blood onto the altar. 21Then take some of the blood on the altar and some of the anointing-oil and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his clothes. Also sprinkle some of it on his sons and on their clothes. Then Aaron, his sons and their clothes will be consecrated to Me.
22Take the fat of the ram, the fat of its tail, the fat from the inner parts of the ram, the lower part of the liver and the 2 kidneys and its fat with the right leg of the ram. 23Take one round loaf of flat bread, one cake of bread made with oil and a wafer from the basket with the flat bread. 24Put it all into the hands of Aaron and his sons. They must move it in front of Me. This is a move-offering for Me. 25Take it from their hands and burn it on the altar with the burnt-offering. This is a fire-offering that pleases Me.’
26-27Then the Lord said to Moses: ‘Take the breast of the sheep ram that you killed to consecrate Aaron and move it in front of Me. This is a move-offering for Me. You must give the breast of the special offering and the leg that you gave to Me as a gift, to Aaron and his sons to eat. 28The Israelites must always give these parts of their meal-offerings to Aaron and his sons. It is their gift to God.’
Meat that is left over
29‘When Aaron dies, you must take his priestly clothes and put them on his son. You must anoint him and consecrate him in Aaron's place so that he can be the priest. 30Aaron's son, who will become priest after him, must wear the priestly clothes for 7 days when he comes to work in the tent where I will appear to you.
31You must take all the meat that is left over from the sheep ram that you killed when you consecrated Aaron and his sons, and you must cook it in a holy place. 32Aaron and his sons must eat the meat of the ram and the bread in the basket. They must eat it at the entrance of the tent where I will appear to you. 33They must eat it because when they became priests, these offerings made atonement for them. Someone who is not a priest may not eat it because it is holy food. 34If there is meat or bread left over the next morning, you must burn it. You may not eat it because it is holy food.
35You must do everything to Aaron and his sons as I have told you. You must consecrate them for 7 days.’
Moses must consecrate the altar
36‘You must sacrifice a bull on the altar every day. This is a sin-offering and it will purify the altar. You must also anoint the altar to consecrate it. 37For 7 days you must make atonement for the altar to consecrate it. Then the altar will be most_holy. If anything touches the altar, it will also be consecrated.’
Offerings for every day
38The Lord said to Moses: ‘You must sacrifice 2 lambs on the altar every day. They must be lambs that are one-year-old. 39You must sacrifice one lamb in the morning and one lamb in the evening. 40With the first lamb you must also sacrifice one 10th of an ephah of good flour that you mix with a quarter_hin of pure olive oil and a quarter_hin of wine as a drink-offering.
41You must sacrifice the 2nd lamb when the sun goes down and you must also sacrifice flour, olive oil and wine with the lamb. This offering pleases Me. It is a fire-offering. 42Your descendants must always sacrifice a burnt-offering like this at the entrance of the tent where I appear and talk to you. 43This is where I will appear to the Israelites and I will consecrate the place when I, the King, appear to you.
44I will consecrate the tent where I appear to you and I will consecrate the altar. I will also consecrate Aaron and his sons so that they can be my priests. 45I will live among the Israelites and I will be their God. 46They will realise that I am the Lord their God who let them go free out of Egypt so that I can live among them. I am the Lord their God.’
