Joshua 16

₁They drew_lots and they gave land to the descendants of Joseph. Their land begins at the Jordan River, east of the fountains of Jericho. The border of their land goes from Jericho, over the desert to the hill_country of Bethel. ₂From Bethel it goes to Luz, and then past the border of the Arkite people to Ataroth. ₃From there the border goes west to the border of the land of the Japhlet tribe and then it goes to Lower-Beth-Horon, to Gezer and to the big sea. ₄This is the land of the descendants of Joseph, the tribes of Manasseh and Ephraim.

₅The border of the land of the families in the Ephraim tribe begins at the town of Ataroth-Addar and goes to Beth-Horon. ₆From there it goes to the sea. From the town of Mikmethath in the north the border goes past the town of Taanath-Shiloh to the town of Janoah in the east. ₇From Janoah the border goes down to the towns of Ataroth and Naarah and from there on to Jericho and on to the Jordan River. ₈From Tappuah the border goes west to the Kanah Valley and it ends at the sea. This is the land of the families in the Ephraim tribe. ₉The Ephraim people also got towns in the land of the Manasseh people. They got the towns with their villages.

₁₀The people of Ephraim could not defeat the Canaanite people in the town of Gezer and chase them away. The Canaanites still live among the Ephraim people, but they must work very hard for them.
