*Psalms 124
It was the Lord who helped us
This is a song for people going to the temple, a Psalm of David.
1‘If the Lord had not helped us,’
this is what the Israelites must say,
2‘If the Lord had not helped us
when people attacked us,
3then those people would have killed us.
They would have swallowed us
while we were alive,
because they were angry with us.
4They would have been like
a water flood that went over us,
like a river of water that washed us away.
5They would have been
like big waves going over us
and we would have drowned.’
6But the Lord did not
let our enemies do it.
He has not left us for them to eat us.
Praise his name.
7We are like a bird that has escaped
from the trap of a hunter.
The trap broke and we escaped
and became free.
8It is the Lord who helps us,
the Lord who made heaven and earth.
