The Lord must be the only God for you
This is a Psalm of David.
1Praise the Lord. He is my Rock.
He teaches my hands how to fight,
and He teaches my fingers how to make war.
2He always does what He has promised.
He is like a safe place in the mountains,
and He protects me and sets me free.
He is my Shield,
and I feel safe with Him.
He makes my people obey me.
3Lord, people are not important.
Why do You care for them?
Why do You even think about someone
who is only human?
4People live for only a short while,
like a breath of wind,
like a shadow that disappears.
5Lord, please bend the heaven
and come down to us.
Touch the mountains so that
smoke can come from them.
6Send your lightning and
chase our enemies away.
Shoot them with your arrows
and make them run away.
7Please put out your hand and help me.
Save me from the deep water and
the strangers who want to attack me.
8They tell only lies,
even when they promise to tell the truth.
9O God, I want to sing a new song to You,
and I want to make music to You with the harp.
10It is You who make kings win in wars,
and it is You who saved David
from his cruel enemies.
11Lord, please save me from strangers,
from people who tell only lies,
even when they promise to tell the truth.
12We pray that our sons will be
like plants that grow big and strong
while they are young.
We pray that our daughters
will be as beautiful as the pillars
at the corners of the palace.
13We pray that our store rooms
will be full of food,
all kinds of food.
We pray that our sheep and goats
in our fields will have
thousands and 10 thousands of lambs.
14We pray that our cattle
will have lots of calves.
We pray that our enemies
will not come into our cities
and that no one will cry in our streets.
15All will be well with people
if God blesses them like this.
If a nation chooses
the Lord to be their God,
they will be really happy.
