I know that God will help me
Tell the leader of the choir to play the same music as the song: ‘The dove in the trees’. David wrote this song when the Philistines caught him in the town of Gath.
1O God, have mercy on me
because there are people
who are chasing me.
They attack and oppress me
and make me suffer.
2My enemies chase me all day long.
Many of them want
to make war_against me.
3When I become afraid,
I trust in You, O God.
4I praise God because
He has promised to help me.
I trust in Him,
and I will not be afraid.
People can not
do anything bad to me.
5My enemies keep on saying
that I said something wrong,
but I did not.
They always make plans against me.
6They want to attack me.
They wait and look at what I am doing,
because they want to destroy me.
7O God, please don't let them escape,
and punish them because they have sinned.
8You know how much I suffer.
You have kept all my tears in your skin-bag.
You have written down all my problems
in your book.
9When I call You and ask for help,
my enemies turn and run away.
I know that God
will help me against them.
10I praise God because
He has promised to help me.
I praise the Lord because
He gave me his Word.
11I trust in God,
and I will not be afraid,
because people can do nothing bad to me.
12O God, I must do
what I promised You.
I will give You thank-offerings,
13because You have
saved me from death.
You stopped me from falling,
and You helped me to walk with You
so that I could live in your light,
the light that gives life.
