The first forefathers
1Here are the names of the first forefathers:
Adam, Seth, Enosh, 2Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, 3Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, 4Noah, Shem, Ham and Japheth. 5The sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshek and Tiras. 6The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah. 7The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites and the Rodanites. 8Ham was the father of Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan. 9The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raamah and Sabteka. The sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan. 10Cush was the father of Nimrod. He became a very powerful and important man. 11Egypt was the father of the Ludites, the Anamites, the Lehabites, the Naphtuhites, 12the Pathrusites, the Kasluhites (the Philistines came from them) and the Caphtorites. 13Canaan was the father of Sidon and Heth. Sidon was the oldest son. 14Canaan was also the father of the Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, 15Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, 16Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites.
17Shem's sons were Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram. Aram was the father of Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek. 18Arphaxad was the father of Shelah and Shelah was the father of Eber. 19Eber had 2 sons. The name of his first son was Peleg. During the time that Peleg lived, they divided the land. Peleg's brother was Joktan.
20Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 21Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 22Ebal, Abimael, Sheba, 23Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. They were all sons of Joktan.
The forefathers of Abram and his descendants
24Here are the names of Abraham's forefathers and the names of his descendants.
His forefathers were Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah, 25Eber, Peleg, Reu, 26Serug, Nahor and Terah. 27Abram's name was later changed to Abraham.
Abraham's family
28Abraham's sons were Isaac and Ishmael. 29The oldest son, Ishmael, was the father of Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 30Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, 31Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah. These were the sons of Ishmael.
32Abraham and his concubine Keturah had 6 sons. They were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah. The sons of Jokshan were Sheba and Dedan. 33The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida and Eldaah. They were all sons of Keturah.
34Abraham's other son was Isaac. Isaac's sons were Esau and Israel. 35Esau was the father of Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam and Korah. 36Eliphaz was the father of Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, Kenaz (by Timna) and Amalek. 37Reuel was the father of Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. 38Seir was the father of Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. 39Lotan was the father of Hori and Homam, and Timna was Lotan's sister. 40Shobal was the father of Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam. Zibeon was the father of Aiah and Anah. 41Anah was the father of Dishon and Dishon was the father of Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran. 42Ezer was the father of Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan. Dishan was the father of Uz and Aran.
The kings of Edom
43Here are the names of the kings in the land of Edom before the time when the people of Israel had kings:
Bela was the son of Beor. His town was named Dinhabah. 44When Bela died, Jobab became king. Jobab was the son of Zerah from the town of Bozrah. 45When Jobab died, Husham from the land of Teman became king. 46When Husham died, Hadad, son of Bedad, became king. Hadad defeated the people of Midian in the land of Moab. The name of his town was Avith. 47When Hadad died, Samlah from the town of Masrekah became king. 48When Samlah died, Shaul from the town of Rehoboth became king. Rehoboth was next to a river. 49When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, became king. 50When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became king. The name of his town was Pau. The name of Hadad's wife was Mehetabel. She was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.
The leaders of the Edom tribes
51When Hadad died, the chiefs of the tribes in the land of Edom ruled.
The chiefs were Timnah, Alvah, Jetheth, 52Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 53Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 54Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of the tribes in the land of Edom.
