2 *Chronicles 3
Solomon builds the temple
(Also in 1 Kings 6:1 – 7:51)
1Solomon started to build the temple in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah. This is where the Lord had appeared to his father David. Solomon built the temple on the place that David had bought. It was the threshing-floor of Araunah. 2He started building the temple on the 2nd day of the 2nd month in the 4th year after he had become king. 3The foundation of the temple was 60 cubits long and 20 cubits wide. Solomon told them to use the old way of measuring. 4The porch at the front of the temple was 20 cubits long and the temple was 20 cubits wide and it was 20 cubits high. Solomon covered the inside walls of the porch with thin gold. 5He covered the walls of the main hall with cypress wood and he covered the cypress wood with pure gold. Then he carved out pictures of palm trees and chains into the gold. 6He put gemstones into the walls of the room. The gold came from the land of Parvaim. 7He covered the roof of the temple with thin gold as well as the poles, the doorsteps, the walls and doors, and he cut cherub-angels into the walls. 8Then he built the most_holy room. It was just as wide as the temple. It was 20 cubits long and 20 cubits wide. He covered the inside walls with 600 talents of pure gold. 9He used golden nails and they weighed 50 shekels. He also covered the walls of the upper room with thin gold.
10In the most_holy room he made images of 2 cherub-angels and he covered them with thin gold. 11The wings of the 2 cherub-angels were 20 cubits wide. The wing of one cherub-angel was 5 cubits wide and it touched one wall of the room. The other wing was also 5 cubits wide and it touched the wing of the other cherub-angel. 12One wing of the other cherub-angel was also 5 cubits wide and it touched the other wall of the room and the other wing was 5 cubits wide and it touched the wing of the first cherub. 13The wings of the 2 cherub-angels were open and the wings were 20 cubits wide altogether. The cherub-angels stood on their feet and they were looking at the room in front of them. 14Solomon made the curtains from blue, purple and red wool and linen and there were pictures of cherub-angels on the curtains.
15In front of the temple Solomon built 2 pillars. The pillars were 35 cubits high and on top of each pillar was a beautiful top. The beautiful top was 5 cubits high. 16He made chains like in the inner room and he put them onto the pillars. He made 100 bronze pomegranates and he put them onto the chains. 17He put the pillars up in front of the temple, a pillar on the right hand side and a pillar on the left hand side. He named the pillar on the right hand side Jakin and the pillar on the left hand side Boaz.
