God is with people who do what is right
(Also in Psalm 53)
This is a Psalm for the leader of the choir, a Psalm of David.
1Foolish people think there is no God.
Fools are bad people. They are cruel,
and not one of them does things that are good.
2The Lord looks down from heaven.
He looks at the people to see
if there is anyone who is wise,
and who asks what God wants.
3But all of them
have turned away from God.
They have all become bad and full of sin,
and there is no one who does good, not one.
4Don't you realise what will happen
to you who do bad things?
You who oppress my people
and eat them like bread,
you who do not pray
and ask the Lord for help,
you will suffer.
5You will start to fear,
because God is with the people
who do what is right.
6You, the bad people, want to stop
the plans of the poor people
and make them fail,
but God will protect them.
7I pray that someone from Zion
will come to save Israel.
O Lord, when You bless your people again,
the descendants of Jacob will rejoice,
and the people of Israel will celebrate.
