Lord, your enemies must fear You
This song is a Psalm of Asaph.
1O God, please do not keep quiet.
Don't be silent and look away.
Please do something.
2Your enemies are making a noise,
and the people who hate You are coming to attack us.
3They are making plans against us,
and we are your people.
They think about what they can do
against the people You love.
4They say: ‘Let us kill all of them.
They must no longer be a nation,
and no one must remember the name of Israel.’
5They come together and make plans against You,
and they make an agreement to work together.
6The enemies are the Edomites, the Ishmaelites,
the people of Moab and the Hagrites,
7the people of Byblos, Ammon and Amalek,
the Philistines and the people who live in Tyre.
8The people of Assyria are with them too,
and they help the children of Lot and make them strong. Selah
9Please do to them what
You did to the Midianites,
and what You did to Sisera and Jabin
at the Kishon River.
10They died at Endor. Their bodies
lay on the ground and rotted.
11Please do to their leaders
what You did to Oreb and Zeeb.
Cause all of their leaders to die
like Zebah and Zalmunna.
12They are the people who said:
‘Let us take the land of the
people of God for ourselves.’
13My God, please make our enemies
like dust in the wind,
like chaff that blows away in the wind.
14Chase them away.
Burn them with a fire that burns down a forest
and like a mountain that is on fire.
15Make them afraid with your strong winds,
your storm winds that blow everything away.
16Please make them ashamed
so that they will know
that You are the Lord.
17Make them afraid and ashamed forever.
Humiliate and destroy them.
18Then they will know that
only You are the Lord,
and that You are the Most High God over all the earth.
