23Jesus answered him, “Whoever loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and my Father and I will come to him and live with him.24Whoever does not love me does not obey my teaching. And the teaching you have heard is not mine, but comes from the Father, who sent me.
25“I have told you this while I am still with you.26The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you.
27“Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.28You heard me say to you, ‘I am leaving, but I will come back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father; for he is greater than I.29I have told you this now before it all happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
1After this, Jesus went to Jerusalem for a religious festival. 2Near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem there is a pool with five porches; in Hebrew it is called Bethzatha.3A large crowd of sick people were lying in the porches — the blind, the lame, and the paralysed.5A man was there who had been ill for 38 years. 6Jesus saw him lying there, and he knew that the man had been ill for such a long time; so he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
7The sick man answered, “Sir, I have no one here to put me in the pool when the water is stirred up; while I am trying to get in, somebody else gets there first.”
8Jesus said to him, “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.”9Immediately the man got well; he picked up his mat and started walking.
