New Seasons – Day 16

Joy is being in awe of God

Itekisi yeBhayibhile

UISAYA 57

15Utsho uThixo ophakamileyo,

uThixo oyedwa ophila ngonaphakade:

“Ndihlala emajuku-jukwini angayiwayo,

kanti ndiyahlala nasebantwini –

kwabo bazinikelayo bathobekileyo –

ukuze ndibahlaziye abathobekileyo,

ndibakhuthaze abo bazinikelayo.

Have you ever wondered for a moment how excited you are about God? Your spiritual life will be greatly deepened if you take the time to be awed by God. Sometimes, we are so busy thinking about God’s actions, that we forget to think about God himself. If we listen to the first commandment, we know that God wants us to adore and worship him. Your total awe of God will give you an indescribable joy and fulfilment in your life. A joyful and fulfilling spiritual life experience begins by being in awe of God. The same is true of our prayer life; it starts with being in awe of God!

You can start by listing the characteristics of God, as described in the Bible, and thinking about them. On your list, you will see that God is holy, almighty, just, loving, gracious, triumphant and unique. These are but a few of God’s characteristics. Take each one at a time and see how the Bible uses it to describe God. Then, use your time to be silent and to be in awe of God!

Only once you are in complete awe of God will you learn to love him as he wants us to love him. We are so full of ourselves that we only love God on our terms. Only when we see God for who he is will we learn to love him, because he is who he is. The world often turns God into a caricature, because they do not know him. We know only in part and our love is, therefore, limited. Once we are in awe of God and we bring our praise to him, we will start to see his greatness and worship him for who he is and not for who we make him. It’s awesome what God can do to you!
